Bassist & composer Sigmar Thor Matthiasson will release his debut solo album this summer and celebrate the release with a concert at the Reykjavik Jazz Festival on Friday September 7th at 7:30 PM. Presenting all-original music, which can be described as a powerful mixture of jazz, pop and rock with an adventurous, yet still a stable outcome.
Most of the music was composed while Matthiasson lived in New York City for 3 years. The music reflects the adventure of living abroad but still suffering from homesickness. The Northern lights (Aurora Borealis) was a big inspiration while composing many of the songs.
The band consists of Sigmar Matthiasson on electric and double bass, Jóel Pálsson and Helgi Rúnar Heiðarsson on saxophones, Snorri Sigurðarson on trumpet, Kjartan Valdemarsson on piano and Magnús Trygvason Eliassen on drums.
