Event info

Stirni ensemble is comprised of soprano Björk Níelsdóttir, flutist Hafdís Vigfúsdóttir, clarinettist Grímur Helgason and guitarist Svanur Vilbergsson who have all been active in the local music scene for the last few years. The ensemble endeavors to offer lively and interesting concert programs with compositions of many different styles and origin. Stirni also emphasizes commissioning new music for the combination and has since its first concert in 2016 given premiers to seven new pieces from Iceland, Slovenia and Mexico.

On Stirni Ensembles first concert of the season its members will explore four of the highly expressive and imaginative Sequezas by Italian composer Luciano Berio – a pleasant challenge for both listeners and performers – as well as giving a premier to a new quartet by composer Egill Gunnarsson written for Stirni and inspired by Icelandic 20th century poetry.

Bonne année! Stirni will celebrate the beginning of the year 2019 with an afternoon full of beautiful french songs and instrumental miniatures. A premier will also be given to a new composition by flutist and composer Martial Nardeau inspired by ancient Chinese philosophy.
