Maxi the Musical Mouse’s newest musical adventure puts the spotlight on Icelandic music, folk songs to contemporary works. In a lively and captivating manner, the music amplifies exciting tales of elves and trolls, and Maxi’s experience of a volcanic eruption during a trip to a glacier. But Maxi is not travelling alone, for he is accompanied by two guest mice, Viva and Moto, who stowed away in the baggage of a foreign conductor. Once again, Maxi has found new friends who share in his adventures. He rejoices over how lucky he is, for “where there is music, everyone is happy.” The work was originally commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and performed at the LA Phil’s Reykjavík Festival in Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The books about Maxi have been extremely popular, have received numerous awards, and have been translated into several languages. The narrator of Maxi’s newest adventure is Unnur Eggertsdóttir, who participated in the Los Angeles premiere under the baton of Daníel Bjarnason, to rave reviews. The patron of the project is Vladimir Ashkenazy, Conductor Laureate of the Iceland Symphony.
