Gaelynn Lea began playing violin 20 years ago after a creative music teacher helped her to adapt a playing style that suits her frame. Lea performs from her electric wheelchair, holding her instrument like a tiny cello. She loops her classically trained rhythms and melodies “to create a symphonic cacophony that is both glorious in its reach and profoundly introspective”. Gaelynn Lea will be playing alongside guitarist Al Church. In 2016, she was named the winner of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest, selected from among 6,000 applicants. Since then, Gaelynn has been touring full-time across the USA & internationally with the help of her husband Paul. Her concert in Reykjavik will feature the renowned Icelandic musician Sóley Stefánsdóttir.
