This personal and heartwarming concert will feature some of Iceland’s top musicians, lovingly performing the music of Jórunn Viðar on instruments such as guitar, piano, percussion and accordion, with many of the country’s most beautiful voices.

Composer Jórunn Viðar, who died last year, would have celebrated her 100th birthday this coming November. In many ways she led a unique life, being the only female member of the Icelandic Composers’ Society for 20 years. She was a piano student in Germany where she lived at the same time as such composers as Jón Leifs and Páll Ísólfsson. She had to abandon her studies due to World War II, but would later study composition at Juilliard. Jórunn was an Icelandic pioneer in the field of ballet and film scores, as well as the composer of many beloved works for singers.
