Leading up to Webern's Three Pieces

Cellist Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir and Pianist Alexandra Joan have been playing together since they met at The Juilliard School in New York in 2006.  On the program are pieces spanning only 90 years, but a wide-range of styles, from classical to modern.  Himself a cellist, Webern wrote Three Little Pieces op. 11 for cello and piano in 1914.  What pieces might a young cellist in Vienna have studied? This concert starts to imagine the answer and includes Schubert´s Arpeggione Sonata, six songs by Brahms and Richard Strauss´ Sonata for cello and piano.
