The talented Johan Dalene from Sweden and Maya Buchanan from Chicago perform beautiful and virtuosic pieces for violin and piano. Both are only 17 years old but have won many prizes in local and international competitions.

June 7th at 20:00 Academy Opening Concert: An Evening of String Quartets

The Academy's second annual Intensive String Quartet Seminar with Sibbi Bernhardsson is held June 1st - 7th. For the past 18 years, Sibbi has been a violinist in the Pacifica String Quartet, one of the best ensembles of its kind in the world. Members of the quartet are also professors at Indiana University. Five quartets participate in the seminar, receiving a daily coaching and Masterclass. Presenting the fruits of their labor in this concert, they will perform movements of quartets by:

Ravel
Shostakovich
Brahms
Bartók
Mendelssohn
Mozart

June 10th at 10:00 Violin Masterclass with Almita Vamos

Currently a faculty member at Chicago's Roosevelt University, Almita Vamos has been one of the most respected violin teachers in the United States for several decades. Her students have won prizes in international competitions, work as soloists and principal players in symphony orchestras around the world, and professors at esteemed music colleges. Almita has strong ties to Iceland, and many of the country's leading violinists have studied with her.

In the masterclass, 4 - 5 Academy students will perform a solo piece for Almita and receive coaching from her. The audience is given a rare glimpse into the performer's and teacher's frame of mind, and of the process required to elevate a performance to the next level.

June 10th at 13:00 Cello Masterclass with Morten Zeuthen

Morten Zeuthen has been highly influential in Danish musical life for decades. He's been a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music since 1996, and was principal cellist of the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra for 20 years before that. He enjoys a highly successful career as performer and teacher, having played concerts all around the world and published dozens of recordings, of both solo and chamber music.

In the masterclass, 4 - 5 Academy students will perform a solo piece for Morten and receive coaching from him. The audience is given a rare glimpse into the performer's and teacher's frame of mind, and of the process required to elevate a performance to the next level.

June 10th at 17:00 Faculty Recital

The Academy's faculty consists of music professors at respected music conservatories, many of whom are also renowned performers. In this concert they will share their artistry in a varied program of solo and/ or chamber music works. Performer and program list will be published soon.

June 13th at 17:00 Senior Division Student Recital

The Academy's Senior Division is made up of 75 music students from 9 countries, who are 10 - 26 years old. In this concert, a selection of students will perform a varied program of solo and/ or chamber music works they've studied with Academy faculty.

June 13th at 20:00 Silk Road on Strings

Dan Zhu, violin

Dan Zhu is one of China's best known violinists. After performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concert in Carnegie Hall at the age of 18, he's enjoyed a busy performance career.

The Academy's Junior Division is made of up 38 music students, who are 10 - 14 years old. In this concert, junior chamber groups will perform a selection of works.

June 17th at 12:00 Senior Division Student Recital

The Academy's Senior Division is made up of 75 music students from 9 countries, who are 10 - 26 years old. In this concert, piano students will perform a varied program of solo and/ or chamber music works they've studied with Academy faculty.

June 17th at 17:00 Academy Festival Concert

The 2017 Academy finishes with an orchestra concert on Iceland's Independence Day, in which the Academy Orchestra plays three pieces:

The Academy Orchestra consists of about 90 music students from 9 countries who are 10 - 26 years old. The concert ends with Iceland's National Anthem.
