Since 2014 Arne Hiorth and Gunnar Gunnarsson have been doing projects
together – in November 2017 they presented their colab concert “Eldmessa” in
Reykjavik. The concert in Hallgrímskirkja consists of improvisation over both
Icelandic and Norwegian folk music.


Gunnar Gunnarsson finished his cantor’s degree at the The Icelandic National
Church Music College 1988 and a final degree from the Department of Theory
and Composition at Reykjavik College of Music in 1989. Gunnar published his
researches in hymnology 1993 called “The Weyse manuscripts and Choralbog for
Island” which are about the origin the first Icelandic choral book and the
manuscripts it was based on. In recent years, Gunnar has dedicated himself to
arranging and performing religious music in a modern fashion and had his part
in arrangements and recordings of traditional music and jazz. Gunnar has been
organist at The Reykjavik Free-Church since 2012.


Arne Hiorth is a norwegian jazz trumpeter composer, producer, teacher and
project coordinator. Hiorth has worked with top acts in Norway, like Mari Boine,
Bjørn Eidsvåg, Anja Garbarek , Oslo Groove Company (Spellemann Award for
Jazz 1990). Released his first solo album in 2004, 7 Oliphaunt Images, including
musicians like Eivind Aarset, Kjetil Bjerkestrand and Hallgrim Bratberg. Among
many other recordings is the Christmas album Snow (2007) with Helge Nysted.
Arne Hiorth was chosen as the sole musician to perform at the memorial ceremony
for July 22nd in Oslo 2013.
