HIP Fest is a unique addition to the cultural life of Icelanders, as it is the only puppet festival in the country. HIP Fest was chosen as the cultural event of the year in Northwest Iceland in 2020 and the organizer of the festival, Handbendi - Brúðuleikhús, is the current holder of Eyrarrósin (named for the plant Arctic Riverbeauty), the biannual award given to an outstanding cultural project in the countryside.
Puppetry is a diverse and ancient art form that is constantly gaining ground in the Iceland's cultural life. At the festival you can see a variety of performances for all ages, presenting a variety of the styles and techniques of the art form.
We look forward to welcoming you to our small corner of the world.
Long live puppetry!
