Cellist Þórdís Gerður Jónsdóttir hosts a concert with music by the German composer Kurt Weill who holds a special place in music history for being a composer with remarkable talent and skills for writing both classical music and jazz. The concert starts with the Icelandic premier of Weill’s sonata for cello and piano written in 1920 when Weill was a student of classical composition in Berlin. After that, Þórdís will lead a jazz ensemble playing her own arrangements of Weill’s cabaret and jazz music from 1928-1950 which he wrote in collaboration with authors and lyricists such as Bertolt Brecht in Berlin and Ira Gershwin in New York.
