This recounts the true story of Mohammed Assaf, a wedding singer from a refugee camp in Gaza, who went to compete in the 2013 Arab Idol, which took place in Cairo and Beirut. The film also recollects his childhood in the Gaza strip.
Hany Abu-Assad has directed six feature films, two of which have been nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, Paradise Now and Omar. He was born in Israel and moved to the Netherlands to study aerodynamics, but he self-identifies as a Palestinian.
